Announcing Camden Whitehead: A Visual Manifesto
The Branch Museum of Design is proud to present Camden Whitehead: A Visual Manifesto, a captivating new exhibition featuring hundreds of watercolor paintings that delves into the mind of Virginia native, architect, and artist, Camden Whitehead. Whitehead’s work is a manifesto of creation and observation.
The exhibition is a meditation on the capabilities of the hand – the middleman between an idea and the realized product. See watercolors of landscapes ranging from Richmond architectural icons to colossal buildings throughout the European countryside – connecting architects from the past and the present and making manifest the intentions of the designer: for creations to be consumed.
Explore the intersection of the fluidity of watercolor and the precision of architecture. Through the translucent layers and luminous hues of paint, visitors will see the conversation between two architects, the one who designed the structure, and the one who condensed the remarkable work into a two-dimensional piece of art. Find where nature meets human design and muse upon its impact. Paintings include Richmond architectural staples like the River City’s bridges, buildings from Italy, Scotland, Switzerland and England. Also featured are experimental studio paintings and scenes of nature delving into the growth of muscle memory – a gestural habit turned second nature. Visit The Branch Museum of Design to enjoy the quietude and slowness of creation. Camden Whitehead: A Visual Manifesto will be open to the public on January 24th and will run through February 2025.
