SUMMARY:Remember the Ladies
DESCRIPTION:St. John’s Church Foundation presents a gender-reversed produ
ction of our time-honored Liberty or Death reenactment. In this historic r
endition\, women drawn from Richmond’s vibrant theatre and film communit
y portray nine delegates to the Second Virginia Convention\, including Geo
rge Washington\, Thomas Jefferson\, Richard Henry Lee and of course\, Patr
ick Henry. Directed by Dr. Jan Powell\, the former Artistic Director of Ri
chmond Shakespeare\, this special production was inspired by and commemora
tes the passing of the 19th Amendment in August 1920\, which gave women th
e right to vote and at-long-last participate in our representational democ
racy. Casting female actors in traditionally male roles is a unique and de
liberate way to shift our modern perspective\, allowing us to better hear
the profundity of Henry’s arguments\, and more fully comprehend America
 ’s relentless pursuit for liberty.
