SUMMARY:Spotlight Tour: Richmond’s Monumental Women with Dr. Jill George
DESCRIPTION:Explore lesser-known stories of Richmond women on this special “Spotlight Tour” led by Jill George, PhD., author of Daughters of Stone and Grace. On a walk through Court End, Capitol Square, and Shockoe Bottom, learn about the courage and ingenuity of women like Mary Lumpkin, Lucy Goode Brooks, and Mary Richards Bowser. Plus, hear how primary sources from the Valentine archives contributed to the research process behind Daughters of Stone and Grace. After the tour, join us in the Valentine Museum Store for a book-signing and to purchase your copy of Daughters of Stone and Grace. Advanced tickets are required. Tickets are non-refundable. Valentine walking tours are typically between 1-2 miles in length. We recommend you wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water. Accessibility: People of all abilities are encouraged to join us. If we can do anything to accommodate your needs, please let us know in advance by emailing tours@thevalentine.org. Tours are held rain or shine. However, in extreme weather, a tour may be cancelled. Notifications about tour status and cancellation will be sent to registrants via email. You can also call 804-649-0711 x 301 to verify a tour will take place. The Valentine’s walking tours are supported in part through a generous partnership with Richmond Region Tourism.
