Songs of Freedom

The 1960s are explored through the work of three prolific artists: Joni Mitchell, Abbey Lincoln, and Nina Simone — all of whom have made an indelible mark in American music. Each artist expressed freedom in different ways. To effectively deliver this vast repertoire, the program features vocalists René Marie, Alicia Olatuja, and Theo Bleckmann. Arrive early for a pre-performance discussion with the performers, led by WCVE Music Jazz host Peter Solomon at 6:30 p.m.

Danish String Quartet

NT Live Broadcast: “Madness of King George III”

National Theatre Live’s first ever broadcast from Nottingham Playhouse. Written by one of Britain’s best-loved playwrights Alan Bennett, this epic play was also adapted into a BAFTA Award-winning film following its premiere on stage in 1991. It’s 1786 and King George III is the most powerful man in the world. But his behavior is becoming increasingly erratic as he succumbs to fits of lunacy.

The Charenée Wade Quartet

Known for her expert vocal improvisational ability and her seriously swinging groove, Wade evokes a classic jazz sound akin to Betty Carter and Sarah Vaughan, two of her musical touchstones. Bolshoi Ballet Broadcast

Restaged for the Bolshoi by Bournonville expert Johan Kobborg, this production is the ultimate romantic masterpiece.
