State Service Has Its Perks! Special Science Museum Discount for State Employees

The Science Museum of Virginia is offering Virginia employees a 30 percent discount on the organization’s Supernova-level membership.

Anyone employed by the state may purchase a new Supernova membership for just $105. In addition, state employees may buy up to two Supernova memberships to gift to science-loving friends and family.

From Sept.1 through 30, anyone who works for the Commonwealth of Virginia and who isn’t currently a member of the Science Museum may get the discount on their membership purchase.

The Science Museum’s Supernova membership level includes two adults and all children (18 years old and younger) in the household. It provides free regular exhibition admission, guest passes to bring friends and family along for a visit, Dome passes to see giant screen films and planetarium shows, discounts in shop and more.

The membership is valid for an entire year, giving state employees the chance to see “Tyrannosaurs: Meet the Family” for free before it leaves the Science Museum on Oct. 3. The interactive touring exhibition showcases more than 30 dinosaur-related objects, including 10 life-size casts and multiple real fossils, and has 12 interactive stations.

In addition to numerous permanent exhibitions and labs open year-round, a membership purchased during this promotional period also allows free access to three other touring exhibitions currently scheduled to be displayed at the Science Museum:

  • “Hot Wheels ™: Race to Win ™” on display Sept. 25, 2021 through Jan. 23, 2022
  • “Skin: Living Armor, Evolving Identity” on display April 30, 2022 through Jan. 15, 2023
  • “Planet Shark: Predator or Prey” on display May 28 through Sept. 5, 2022

State employees are innovative, ambitious and creative. This past year especially, they have also shown they are resilient, inspirational and dedicated. The Science Museum wants to show support for their tireless efforts and celebrate their many contributions by offering them a chance to create lasting memories with their family.

By having Virginia staff bring their loved ones to the Science Museum, they are helping future scientists hone critical thinking skills and build confidence in science content, while giving the Science Museum a chance to inspire Virginia’s next generation of STEM workers.

State employees interested in the discounted membership may purchase it in person throughout September at Guest Services, where they will be asked to show a state-issued ID as verification of employment. The Science Museum is located at 2500 West Broad St. in Richmond.

“Tyrannosaurs: Meet the Family” was created by the Australian Museum and is toured internationally by Flying Fish. “Hot Wheels™: Race to Win™” was produced by The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis and Mattel, and is locally sponsored by TowneBank and Woodfin. “Skin: Living Armor, Evolving Identify” was created by the California Academy of Sciences and modified for travel and distributed by the Science Museum of Minnesota. The exhibition is generously supported by Susan and Nicholas Pritzker and Family. “Planet Shark: Predator or Prey” has been made available by Grand Experiences of Australia.
