Richmond Young Writers
This is where things get weird. Brilliant. Surprising. Powerful. Join Richmond Young Writers this summer and wield your weapon of mass creation: your voice. RYW offers 16 week-long, half-day summer camps in fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, journalism, screenwriting, experimental forms and more. We focus on both the joy and craft of creative writing, discovering worlds within and outside of ourselves through language. Our teachers are skilled in the art of word magic and how to extract it, and extra special professional authors/artists visit each camp to teach a dynamic workshop that pushes creative bounds. Camps are available for young writers ages 9-17. Half and full scholarships are available.

For 2020 – We’ve got two camp options on deck: in-person and online!
– IN-PERSON CAMPS AT STUDIO TWO THREE
In their roomy, creative space for three weeks in July so that we can have distanced, in-person camps. These experiences will follow state COVID-19 protocol (single entry/exit, all participants and staff masked, gloves for staff when necessary, one six-foot table per student and six-foot distance maintained throughout, no shared utensils or snacks, antiviral cleaning measures in place before and after workshop).
There’s one week of in-person camp per age group and 9 seats total for each week, so space will be very limited. If this option feels right for you, grab a spot now!
– ONLINE CAMPS VIA ZOOM
We’re thrilled to offer virtual camps, too. Six of them (and maybe more coming in July)! Our virtual Zoom camps will be 90-minute experiences for 5 consecutive days. It’s a great way for young writers to build upon their creative work and develop relationships with other writers. Poetry and fiction elements will be explored in these camps, and Lila’s Sharing Circle is open to exploration in any genre.
