Lynnhaven Academy named Casey Hitchcock as its new head of school. Hitchcock is currently the head of middle school and teaches English at the school.

“It is a privilege to be a part of the next phase of Lynnhaven. To be selected as head of school with such confidence by Johnathan Harris and the board is an honor, and I hope that my efforts match the legacy that he began,” Hitchcock said in a prepared statement.

“I have great respect and admiration for Johnathan’s vision to create a learning community that focuses on the whole student,” Hitchcock said.

Hitchcock will replace Harris, who currently leads as Lynnhaven’s founder and headmaster, located at 1000 Westover Hills Blvd. He will now serve as the executive director for the school.

Courtney Hughes, the chairwoman of Lynnhaven Academy’s Board of Directors, called Hitchcock “the person we’ve been waiting for to move the school to next phase of its development.”

“Casey’s strong ability to make authentic connections with students, families, and the community is exactly what we were looking for in a leader. Her deep passion and commitment to the school, diverse education, and leadership experience aligns with our core values,” she said in a written statement. “She will catapult Lynnhaven’s mission to the next level. Casey has complete confidence from the Board of Directors and overwhelmingly support from the Lynnhaven community,” Hughes said.

“The board of directors looks forward to having Johnathan lead Lynnhaven from a development and strategic planning standpoint as the executive director. His continued dedication and vision is the foundation for the school,” Hughes said.

Hitchcock attended Alexander High School in her native Albany, Ohio. She is an alumnae of Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, and she obtained a graduate degree in organizational leadership from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee.

Hitchcock began her career in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, at Mahaffey Middle School, as a sixth grade social studies and language arts teacher. As a military spouse, she also volunteered as a group leader for the Headquarters Company, 327th Infantry Battalion, 101st Airborne Division and 426th Brigade Support Battalion, 101st Airborne for the United States Army. She received commendations from both divisions as volunteer of the month due her strong leadership. Hitchcock continued her personal career and served military families, all while her husband was deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

She and her husband, Zachary, who serves as a Major in the United States Army, have three children, Josephine, Cooper, and Lawson. They reside in Bon Air.
