Bring Gently-Used Shoes to Saxon through December 24

Saxon Shoes honors its long history and commitment to community with its twenty-first Saxon Shoes for the Needy collection now through December 24, 2013.

Shoes_collectionThe public is encouraged to clean out their closets and donate their used, but still usable shoes to the collection. While shoes for all seasons and ages are needed, children’s and men’s shoes are historically the least donated and most needed.

“My parents were always philanthropic. If someone couldn’t afford the shoes they needed, my parents made them affordable,” recalls Gary Weiner, president of Saxon Shoes. Weiner’s parents, Jack and Gloria, first opened Saxon Shoes back in 1953. Weiner continues “The idea of collecting Shoes for the Needy was a natural one for us. We knew people would get it and that the collection could change lives.”

Saxon Shoes for the Needy is the company’s signature community program and offers the public an opportunity to recycle something they already have, but no longer use. Weiner says, “I have always said, if everyone did a little, then nobody would have to do a lot.”

Donations can be dropped off at either of Saxon Shoes’ two locations, Short Pump Town Center or The Village at Spotsylvania Towne Centre. The collected Saxon Shoes for the Needy will be presented to The Salvation Army Adult Rehab Center in Richmond and The Salvation Army in Fredericksburg.

While individuals and families are large contributors to the collection, many of the shoes come from groups within schools, churches, businesses and other organizations. To register a group or for more information visit www.saxonshoes.com and click on the “Shoes for the Needy” image, or e-mail shoesfortheneedy@saxonshoes.com.

Saxon Shoes will participate in a few area events to promote and collect Shoes for the Needy:saxonshoes
