Anticipation Building for New Science Museum Exhibition Towers of Tomorrow with LEGO® Bricks

The final pieces are being put into place! Beginning Saturday, February 1, “Towers of Tomorrow with LEGO® Bricks” rises within the Science Museum of Virginia.

Featuring scaled replicas of 20 iconic skyscrapers hailing from North America, Asia, and Australia, the interactive touring exhibition spotlights a breathtaking array of architectural wonders and world-renowned landmarks that have left an indelible mark on city skylines.

Guests will learn about the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) involved in construction and architecture while having the opportunity to create their own design masterpieces. “Towers of Tomorrow with LEGO® Bricks” aims to inspire guests of all ages to appreciate the architecture they encounter in their daily lives and the complexities of designing entire cities.

“This exhibition is the perfect combination of hands-on play with materials people know and love and interpretation through a STEM lens of a topic people experience everyday,” said Timshel Purdum, Virginia C. Ellett Deputy Director for Education. “LEGO bricks plus skyscrapers equals taking sightseeing opportunities to new heights!”

Led by one of only 23 LEGO® Certified Professionals worldwide, a team of builders invested more than 2,000 hours and used more than half a million LEGO bricks to meticulously craft each of the exhibition’s architectural masterpieces. Some internationally recognized buildings in “Towers of Tomorrow with LEGO® Bricks” include the Chrysler Building, Empire State Building, Shanghai Tower, and Petronas Twin Towers. The tallest LEGO structure in the exhibition, the Burj Khalifa, stands at more than 13 feet, massive but just a fraction of the size of its Dubai-based inspiration, which rises more than half a mile into the air.

Guests of all ages can create their own future-focused towers from over 200,000 loose LEGO bricks and add custom additions to a steadily rising collaborative LEGO metropolis inside the exhibition.

“This extraordinary collaboration between Museums of History NSW and Flying Fish brings together the finest architectural artistry and creative expression,” said Jay Brown, Principal and Managing Director of Flying Fish. “We are excited to share this stunning exhibition with audiences of all ages as we celebrate engineering, design and play.”

The arrival of “Towers of Tomorrow with LEGO® Bricks” comes at an exciting time in the LEGO Group’s history, as the company will open its first U.S. manufacturing plant in Chesterfield County Virginia in the coming years.

“‘Towers of Tomorrow’ is a can’t-miss for enthusiasts of architecture, design, and LEGO innovation,” Purdum added. “We look forward to seeing the cross-generational collaboration on buildings guests create while at the Science Museum, but we are even more excited about the inspiration this exhibition will offer for guests to go home and develop grand structures of their own. It may seem like just playing with LEGOs, but you never know how many future internationally renowned skyscraper designers the exhibition might influence!”

“Towers of Tomorrow with LEGO® Bricks” is on display February 1–August 24, 2025. In addition to the touring exhibition, the Science Museum will be offering special LEGO-themed programming while the exhibition is on display, including GLOW on February 1 to celebrate opening day.

“Towers of Tomorrow with LEGO® Bricks” is included with Science Museum admission. For hours and ticketing information, visit smv.org.

“Towers of Tomorrow with LEGO® Bricks” is a traveling exhibition produced by Museums of History NSW and toured internationally by Flying Fish.
