This Mother’s Day, moms can enjoy free enjoy free access to the Virginia Museum of History & Culture, including the museum’s most recent exhibition Julia Child: A Recipe for Life, which is on view now through September 2, 2024.
Explore the key ingredients that inspired Julia’s passion for cooking through a series of interactive story-telling elements and discover how the beloved chef’s insatiable curiosity and tenacious spirit revolutionized the way Americans cook and eat. Be transported to the moment that inspired Julia’s culinary career in a theatrical re-creation of La Couronne, the French restaurant where the chef experienced her first French meal. Star in a culinary production with a re-creation of “The French Chef” television studio set, and dining room to see the cooking show from Child’s point of view. Photographs on view throughout the exhibition chronicle Child’s career and relationship with her husband Paul, who captured beautiful images that documented their lives together.
Displays exclusive to the exhibition’s showing at VMHC highlight Julia’s connections to Virginia and the influence of French cooking in the Commonwealth’s culinary history. Visitors can also discover the other enduring influences that have been woven into Virginia recipes and the Virginia chefs who used those influences to create unique dishes. To receive free admission this Sunday, moms can simply check in at the guest services desk when they arrive.
