Campers become more confident by being away from home at an overnight camp; it’s an opportunity to learn and grow. Over the years, thousands of children from the Richmond area have spent their summer on the water in Arapahoe, N.C. learning new skills, fostering confidence and growing in independence, all while having the time of their lives.
At YMCA Camp Sea Gull for boys and YMCA Camp Seafarer for girls, we provide a well-supervised setting for campers to make choices and meet new friends, to try new activities and get better at others. We place an emphasis on hiring excellent role models so that your child will have a positive, safe and fun experience while at Camp.
Our days are structured so that campers come together for meals, cabin time and camp-wide events. The rest of the day, campers are free to choose their own activities – and the choices are seemingly endless!
Seamanship is our focus. We offer an extensive fleet of sailboats and powerboats to teach campers of all ages the proper handling, safety measures and skills to make their time on the water safe AND fun. Our other water activities include a zipline into the lake, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing, waterskiing and tubing.
Land activities are abundant at both Camp Sea Gull and Camp Seafarer. Campers enjoy golf, tennis, pickleball, archery, riflery, a climbing wall/tower, environmental discovery, volleyball, soccer, basketball, softball/baseball, lacrosse and creative arts. Camp Seafarer also offers horseback riding.
We strive to go beyond skill development and have a positive influence on each camper’s character development. We hope the Camp adventure will be marked by growth in self-confidence and independence, consideration of others, heightened respect for a fragile environment and a spirit of cooperation that can make the world a better place. Such an attitude is the mark of a Camp Sea Gull and Camp Seafarer “Good Sport Award.”
