Maymont will be buzzing with plants for sale and garden-related activities during Herbs Galore on Saturday, April 26, from 8am–3pm. Dozens of nurseries, specialty growers and artisanal product vendors will spread out across the 6-acre Carriage House Lawn, along with live music, food vendors and fun activities for all ages.
For convenience, Herbs Galore features a plant-check area, a loading zone and an outdoor food court. Event-goers can park their purchases and explore Maymont’s grounds and gardens during peak blooming season. Event admission includes a free audio tour of the historic Italian Garden and entry to The Robins Nature Center. Throughout the day, plant experts will give demos and talks on the main stage, alternating with musical interludes by the Richmond Indigenous Gourd Orchestra.

Food trucks will offer a variety of breakfast and lunch treats perfect for a picnic, including a refreshing selection of mimosas (with ID). Budding young gardeners can try out crafts and activities at the Education Station. Gardening enthusiasts can also sign up for Container Garden Workshops led by Maymont staff this spring, starting with Salad Greens on March 19 & 20, Mixed Herbs on April 23 & 24, and Hanging Baskets on May 21 & 22.
Plant lovers are encouraged to bring a wagon to carry home the bounty of plants and gardening products — rare and common herbs, annuals, perennials, trees, vegetables, herbal products and accessories — everything they need to stock their gardens or window boxes. Participating vendors include Colesville Nursery as well as purveyors of pepper plants, easy-to-grow succulents and popular native species, plus artisanal products like hand-crafted garden accessories and edible treats derived from herbs. This marks the 40th time Maymont has hosted Herbs Galore, and the thirtieth year the International Herb Association has selected an herb of the year, which is Chamomile in 2025.

“Herbs Galore is a perfect place for plant lovers to share their passion for gardening, whether you’re an expert gardener looking for something new or a beginner who wants to chat with experienced growers,” said Parke Richeson, Maymont President and CEO. “Come for the spring plant market and stay for a chance to explore all that Maymont has to offer while Richmond is in peak blooming season.”
