Bon Secours Richmond Health System announces the opening of the new Bon Secours Physical Therapy and Sports Performance Clinic at Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center. The 9,000-square foot clinic, located on the main floor of a new OrthoVirginia building on the Memorial Regional campus, offers some of the region’s most advanced physical therapy and sports performance/fitness programs within the growing field of sports medicine.
This new practice at Memorial Regional joins Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center and St. Francis Watkins Centre as Bon Secours’ third clinic offering sports performance, fitness and nutrition programs, and its fourth physical therapy clinic along with Patterson Avenue, Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center and St. Francis Watkins Centre.
Some of the sports performance/fitness programs offered at the clinic include nutrition consultations, VO2 max metabolic testing, speed and agility training, run performance programs, power development, energy system development and a football combine training, among others. Personalized training programs are available to individuals, groups and teams. In preparation for school sports beginning in the fall, the clinic’s sports performance team started summer clinics for middle and high school athletes in June.
Also in June, the physical therapy team began treating patients who have experienced a sports-related injury and require rehabilitation before resuming competition or recreational athletic endeavors. Along with several types of orthopaedic and sports rehab programs, the clinic also offers joint and spine therapy, slow motion video analysis, worksite ergonomic evaluation, balance and fall prevention programs, and assistance with pelvic pain and pelvic dysfunction, to name but a few of the clinic’s specialty areas in physical therapy.
“Sports medicine has emerged as a highly specialized area of health care, requiring a unique skill set by the health professionals who want to help anyone engaged in physical activity for competition or for fun,” said Michael Robinson, CEO of Bon Secours Memorial Regional Medical Center. “We are very proud that this new clinic at Memorial Regional is increasing access to care in the Richmond community for sports-related injuries as well as providing performance-improving programs in a safe and well-monitored health care setting.”
The professionally trained and certified staff within the facility includes Jay Moore, who will become the lead clinical supervisor effective July 27. Serving as interim lead therapist until then is Mike Hathaway, clinical supervisor for Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center. Curt Truhe will serve as the sports performance coordinator for the clinic at MRMC.
“Our vision is for Bon Secours Physical Therapy and Sports Performance at MRMC to become the go-to clinic for the greater Hanover community’s sports performance and physical therapy needs,” said Brad Lear, Administrative Director of Physical Therapy and Sports Performance. “We’re pleased to offer a wide range of services and expand our reach to meet the needs and support the goals of athletes and clients in Hanover.”
