Fourth Annual Dunk Hunger Food Drive Contributes 77,404 Meals to FeedMore’s Central Virginia Food Bank

This summer’s pool visits took on a new meaning for many area Richmonders who raised food and funds for FeedMore’s Central Virginia Food Bank through the fourth annual Dunk Hunger campaign. The swim team and community pools challenge brought in pools from across Greater Richmond and raised the equivalent of 77,404 meals, with Canterbury Recreation Association claiming the Gold Medal for the third year in a row, with 17,454 meals contributed. Canterbury will be treated to a winners’ bash on Monday, August 24, from 3 to 5 p.m., at their pool at 1300 Pump Road in Richmond’s west end. Interviews and photo opportunities will be available at that time.

Canterbury’s Dunk Hunger chairman Jack McSorley, a Freeman High School junior, says of the group’s efforts, “Our pool has adopted Dunk Hunger into its culture with fun ways to raise food and funds.”

Since its inception in 2012, the Dunk Hunger campaign has raised the equivalent of 148,404 meals for the Central Virginia Food Bank. “We are thrilled that this summer’s campaign raised more food and funds than our first three campaigns combined. We are excited to see this summer program continue to grow, especially at a time when the Food Bank is in such need,” says Margaret Thompson, Richmond Family Magazine publisher.
