For five days, The Virginia Cliffe Inn will be filled with a unique collection from over 60 area crafters, artists, and bakers to get the holiday season started in style. Since 1980, artisans gather to display their handmade crafts in each room of the historic Glen Allen bed & breakfast and event venue at Christmas at The Inn.
The History of Christmas at the Inn
The Cliftons love opening their home up to the community to kick off the holiday season at this ticketed event. “This tradition was started by my mother and me in 1980, says Janice Clifton, Virginia Cliffe Inn proprietor. “From the moment my mother and I created our craft show, our dream has always been to showcase talented crafters in our area and share our home with the local community and beyond. I am so blessed, and proud, to be able to carry on this tradition.”
Back then, the Cliftons owned a craft store in Laurel Park, Virginia, called Grannyās Attic, selling crafts on consignment. They also had a wonderful home with lots of space, so they decided to decorate it for Christmas, fill it with crafts, and invite the public. The first year, about 850 people attended. The Cliftons were so surprised at the attendance and had so much fun, they decided to repeat the event, and it grew by word of mouth each year. By the third year, over 3,000 people attended.
Unique Shopping Experience
Guests are invited to enjoy the holiday decorations and smells of the season and meet the crafters and the Clifton family. Visitors will be given a complimentary shopping bag for their purchases upon entry. While enjoying the beauty of every room of the house, guests will be invited to sample “Grannyās Inn” special blend of tea, as well as baked goods from local bakers in the kitchen.
Many of the items for sale can be ordered in larger quantities and personalized to help shoppers complete their holiday shopping lists. A central cashier at the exit assists with purchases (cash, checks, and credit cards). Additional vendors will be in the enclosed heated pavilion and tent with even more items to make your holiday shopping a breeze, including Kino Alpaca Creations, who will be bringing their alpacas as well as alpaca products made from fleece all farmed in Virginia.
