Goodwill of Central Virginia and Regency Square partnered for the second annual Denim Drive benefiting Henrico County Public Schools.

Henrico County schools competed within their elementary, middle and high school divisions as they vied for a piece of over $7,000 in prize money.  Students were not the only ones contributing to the drive. Various PTAs, clubs, and community groups donated items to help their favorite school win.

All denim items counted toward the grand total including jeans, shorts, skirts, shirts and jackets. Each piece counted as one point and the top three schools with the most points in each division came away with money for their school.

Sixty percent of Henrico County’s schools participated in the program up from 55 percent last year. Goodwill volunteers and staff collected the items at Regency Square over the course of two weekends of April. Schools conducted invidual drives on campus and encouraged friends and family to donate on-site at Regency to support their efforts.

Over 6,500 denim items were donated, more than doubling last year’s total. At an awards presentation, the following schools were recognized for contributing the most denim.

Elementary Schools:

1st Place: Echo Lake Elementary School
2nd Place: Springfield Park Elementary School
3rd Place: Raymond B. Pinchbeck Elementary School

Middle Schools:

1st Place: Tuckahoe Middle School
2nd Place: John Rolfe Middle School
3rd: Place: Brookland Middle School

High Schools:

2nd Place: Henrico High School
