The Maggie Walker Governor’s School Chess Club, the Virginia Scholastic Chess Association, and the Capital One Volunteer Corps will host a free chess clinic for Richmond area school-age chess players at the Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School for Government and International Studies Monday, January 13 from five to seven.
While the Maggie Walker Chess Club has hosted chess community clinics each month, this event is unique as special guest Grandmaster Sergey Erenburg (a top-five player in the United States) from Capital One will conduct a simultaneous chess exhibition for scholastic players and families. This event provides a great opportunity for children to play against a world-class grandmaster, and spend a few hours learning how to play better chess with volunteers from the Maggie Walker Chess Club and Capital One.
In addition, Virginia Scholastic Chess Association President Mike Hoffpauir will present a session on how to start a chess club at your school. Parents looking to start a club at their child’s school will find a wealth of information and resources to help them get started.
This clinic, like all Maggie Walker Chess Clinics is open to all school-age children, FREE and there is no registration. Complete details are available on the Maggie Walker Chess Club Facebook page: www.facebook.com/MLWGSChess
