On Saturday, December 7 – 8:00pm and Sunday, December 8 – 3:00pm, the Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage will be transformed into a wonderland of music and song! Join conductor Erin Freeman, the Richmond Symphony, the Richmond Symphony Chorus, members of the Saint Paul’s Baptist Church Joy Choir, the Children’s Honor Choir, and Richmond’s own vocal virtuoso, Lisa Edwards-Burrs for holiday favorites including Silent Night, Joy to the World, and It’s a Wonderful Life. About the Richmond Symphony
Founded in 1957, the Richmond Symphony is the largest performing arts organization in Central Virginia. The organization includes an orchestra of more than 70 professional musicians, the 150-voice Richmond Symphony Chorus and more than 200 students in the Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra programs. About Lisa Edwards-Burrs
Lisa Edwards-Burrs’ performances in recital, oratorio and chamber music are extensive. Her operatic roles include Blanche in Dialogues of the Carmelites, Monica in The Medium, Despina in Così fan tutte, Treemonisha in Treemonisha, Adina in L’Elisir d’Amore, Poppea in L’incoronazione di Poppea and several contemporary operas, Andrew Simpson’s The Furies, Leslie Burrs’ Vanqui, H. Leslie Adams’s Blake and Steven M. Allen’s Lyrics of Sunshine and Shadows. Other contemporary works include the world premieres of Leslie Burrs’ chamber work, “Egypt’s Nights” and Allan Blank’s “The Jumblies” with the Richmond Chamber Players. She has received several awards and was named Outstanding Vocalist of the Year by Richmond Magazine. Dr. Burrs also served as an Artistic Ambassador for the U.S. to South America with pianist, Melanie Day and has performed recitals in Caux, Switzerland and at the Amalfi Music and Arts Festival. Her performances featuring the works of African American composers and other contemporary works have also received critical acclaim. Currently, she is an Associate Professor of Music at Virginia State University.
