Richmond has not hosted an adult triathlon since 2019 due to COVID. Live Red Foundation, a non-profit focused on empowering all children through youth fitness, is splashing into adult triathlon on the back of its successful youth triathlon and running series! Live Red Foundation has added adult races at all their existing youth triathlon and running events as well as added two new adult triathlons to their 2023 race calendar. All these events serve as the primary source of funding for Live Red Foundation’s free youth fitness programs. Every year, Live Red Foundation provides over 8,000 children in Richmond’s lowest-opportunity neighborhoods with a free fitness program that teaches these children essential life skills. So, if you ever considered doing a triathlon, now is the time – you can race and know you are investing in the community by doing so!

Live Red Foundation has been providing successful youth races to the Richmond community for over 12 years and is excited to introduce two new adult races this year. The RVA Sprint Triathlon is Richmond’s only pool triathlon and one of only three in the state. The draw of a pool triathlon is that it is very beginner-friendly with the swim taking place in a pool versus a lake, river, or ocean. In addition to the 300m pool swim, participants will enjoy a rolling rural 20k bike and fun out-and-back 5k run course. For those who would prefer to not swim or run, there is both duathlon (run-bike-run) and aquabike (swim-bike) options from which you can choose. Also, youth aged 15 & under will be able to participate in a youth splash & dash (swim-run) event the same day. The RVA Sprint Triathlon will be on Sunday, August 27th starting at 7 am from the Rockville Center. You can learn more and register to participate or volunteer at https://livered.org/rvatriathlon.
The second event that Live Red Foundation will be introducing to the RVA community is the Robious Landing Triathlon. This course treats participants to a fast downriver 650m swim, a relatively flat out-and-back 20k bike, and an exciting 5k run on trails and neighborhood roads. There will also be a youth triathlon held at the venue the same day as well as duathlon (run-bike-run) and aquabike (swim-bike) options for those who wish to not swim or run. The Robious Landing Triathlon will be on Sunday, October 1st starting at 7am from Robious Landing Park. You can learn more and register to participate or volunteer at https://livered.org/robiouslandingtriathlon.

In addition to these new races, Live Red Foundation is adding adult races to all of their 2023 summer events including the Camp Hilbert Off-Road Triathlon, Duathlon, & Aquabike on July 23rd and the Regency Mile on October 29th. The Camp Hilbert Off-Road Triathlon is available to youth and adults of all experience levels. Participants 12 years and younger will complete a 100m swim, .9 mile mountain bike, and 1-mile trail run. Adult and youth 13 years old and older will complete a 300m swim, 5.2-mile mountain bike, and 2-mile trail run. This race will also offer duathlon (run-bike-run) and aquabike (swim-bike) options for those who wish to not swim or run. A Richmond tradition, the Regency Mile is Sunday, October 29th, from 7 am -11 am at Regency Square Mall. The Regency Mile (previously the Short Pump Mile) been Richmond’s largest timed youth road race. This event also features one-mile races for adults as well. Grab the whole family and sign up for one of these four amazing race opportunities. For more information about any of our races or to register, check out our website https://livered.org/#Events
