FREE Classes

1. NAMI Basics

When: February 25, 2013 – April 1, 2013 (each Monday)
Time: Monday nights from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Where: UMFS at 3900 West Broad Street, Richmond, VA 23230

Trainers: Shannon Haworth and Monique Tinsley

NAMI Basics is a free 6 week educational course for parents and other family caregivers of children and adolescents living with mental illness. This course is taught by trained teachers who are also parents/caregivers of individuals who developed the symptoms of mental illness prior to the age of 13.

2. Family-to-Family

When: February 4, 2013 to April 29, 2013
Time: Monday nights from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m.
Where: First Presbyterian Church at 4602 Cary Street Road, Richmond, VA 23226
To Register: Call Kathy Harkey at 804-285-1749
Registration required. Classes limited to 25 persons.

Family-to-Family is a free series of 12 weekly classes structured to help caregivers understand and support individuals with serious mental illness while maintaining their own well being. The course is taught by a team of trained NAMI family member volunteers who know what it’s like to have a loved one struggling with one of these brain disorders. There is no cost to participate in the NAMI Family-to-Family Education Program. All instruction and course materials are free to class participants. Over 300,000 people have graduated from this national program.
