Saturday, April 18, 2015, firefighters will compete in both team and individual races, based on real-life rescue techniques using a four-story tower. The third annual event will be held at Short Pump Town Center, in the parking lot between Dick’s Sporting Goods and Macy’s, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM (rain or shine). The free family event includes watching participants compete in full firefighting gear and race against the clock in four events:
- Stair Climb: carrying a 42-pound fire hose pack up four flights of stairs
- Hose Pull: sprinting while dragging a pressurized fire hose
- Flowing Water: aiming a hose with 200 gallon-per-minute flow to hit a target
- Victim Rescue: dragging a 175-pound mannequin down a 100-foot escape route
Other things to do and see at the games include:
- Live firefighting demonstrations in a two-story burning building
- “Jaws of Life” demonstrations
- 100-foot ladder demonstrations
- More than 25 fire trucks and other rescue vehicles, all open to participant exploration
- Drive-Thru Child Car Seat Check by the Virginia Department of Health certified inspectors
- Virginia Blood Services’ Bloodmobile
- Firefighters from across Virginia
- Child’s play area featuring inflatable games
- Live music, food (for purchase)
