Warm June greetings to you, RFM readers, and you know what that means – the kids are about to descend upon us for nearly three months! Okay, I’m just talking to those of you who are in my boat – parents of school-aged kids with not a care in the world this summer and nothing better to do than drive you crazy asking, Whhhheeeeeeeennnnn can we to the pooooooollllll?
This is why I’m writing this note from my temporary office in the lovely and bustling lounge at Aqua-Tots Swim School (shameless advertiser plug, but it is true!). After years of talking about it, we have finally caved in and joined our closest community pool, complete with Wi-Fi. I add in that little tidbit so you’ll know where my July Publisher’s Note will be written. Which brings us back to why I’m sitting in Aqua-Tots today. That’s right, the plan is to seamlessly run RFM from the comfort of lounge chair #7, soon to be declared Margaret’s summer office, while the kids splash the summer away, only needing me for their occasional popsicle fix from the snack bar. Of course, this can only happen if those little critters can swim without my assistance, so Morgan family, work your magic these next four weeks and help my summer dreams come true!
I must admit, I’m looking forward to the break in routine and enjoying a little accelerated reader-free time this summer (but oh how I do love your commitment to reading, Mrs. B!). Of course, I hope the kids still want to read, even though it’s not required (by a teacher anyway), and I definitely plan to take full advantage of some of the great summer reading programs I read about in our awesomely jam-packed June calendar. There is no shortage of ways to keep the kids occupied this summer, and our summer camp finder at RFMonline.com is a great place to begin your search for things to keep their brains and bodies busy. You can even filter your search by area of town, day, overnight, or special needs camp, and camp activity – how cool is that?!
As the summer kicks off, we’ll celebrate Father’s Day with First Things First at a great event at Ukrop Park. Come on out Sunday, June 9, from one to four and don’t forget your bathing suit! There will be pool activities in the beautiful GRAP pool, as well as putting, soccer, football, and the fastest dad in Richmond contest!
Enjoy another fabulous (if I do say so myself) issue of RFM, with a little something for families at every stage of the game. This month, we talk about healthy relationships for teens, concussions, all the fun to be had at Legoland Florida, the joy of cooking with kids, pet insurance…shall I go on? Really, there’s something for everyone!
