Wouldn’t You Like to Know?

Every once in a while, instead of my usual column, I’ll find a Richmonder who I think we’d all like to know a bit more about. Same questions each time, from the Prying Publisher (that’s me!) And the answers are just for you.

This month, I discovered some fun and fascinating facts about Karen Coltrane, president and CEO of the beloved Children’s Museum of Richmond. Aren’t you glad I’m so nosy?

Mountains or beach?
Both are nice in small doses.

Dogs or cats?
Both are wonderful. I have one of each.

Blackberry or iPhone?
Neither. Sprint Instinct

What book is on your nightstand right now?
Play: How it Shapes the Brain, Opens the Imagination and Invigorates the Soul by Stuart Brown, MD

If you were stranded on a desert island, what food would you want to grow on trees?
Spaghetti. I could happily eat it every day, and he tree would look like a weeping willow.

Same island – what’s the one CD would you want to have with you?
Earth, Wind & Fire’s Greatest Hits

What’s the last song you downloaded to your iPod?
I don’t have an iPod. I still love the randomness of channel surfing the radio.

Favorite Richmond restaurant for the whole family?
Glory Days. If we aren’t there for a couple of days, they send out a search party.

What if you have a sitter?
Glory Days. But we mix it up every now and then with Brio at Stony Point.

What is your favorite way to spend a rainy Sunday?
Hanging out at home with my husband and son, catching up on my email and surfing the Internet while they watch TV and play computer games. We tend to multi-task together.

What is your favorite vacation spot?
Any big city with a professional baseball team.

What is your energy source?
Any place full of happy people.

Finish this sentence: “My family loves it when I…”
Bring home Pierce’s Pitt Bar-B-Q from Williamsburg and bake mini-cupcakes.

Favorite family day outing?
The best days include bargain shopping, eating food somebody else cooked, and attending a competitive sporting event.

Readers will be surprised to know…
I was adopted as an infant and found my birth mother when I was 28. She has been my best friend ever since.
