All ages. On the morning of December 7, 1941, Doris “Dorie” Miller was a mess attendant second class aboard the USS West Virginia stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. For his courageous actions during the “day that will live in infamy,” Miller became the first African American to earn the Navy Cross. We will explore his brief, but eventful, life in this lecture.
