A culturally enriching family-friendly celebration in the museum’s Cochrane Atrium and additional VMFA spaces. Presented by VMFA & Pocahontas Reframed Film Festival, this event features the following: champion powwow dancer Sam BearPaw, celebrated world-champion hoop dancers Moontee Sinquah and his sons, Sampson Sixkiller and Scott Sixkiller, family films, demonstrations, storytelling sessions, and art activities. VMFA’s Family Powwow coincides with the Pocahontas Reframed Film Festival, Richmond’s annual festival that honors the contributions of Native Americans and reinvigorates conversations about telling stories of indigenous life.
