Peace and Confusion: The Waning Days of World War II

October 10, 2023 @ 2:00 pm 3:00 pm

World War II officially ended on September 2, 1945. American soldiers were part of the Army of Occupation and the world saw new political spheres of influence created. The point system determined when many soldiers would finally return home. The wounded had begun to heal, the dead would be buried or repatriated, and prisoners of war were finally free. Overseas, cities and infrastructure destroyed by war would be rebuilt and a hot war transitioned into a cold war. Join Virginia War Memorial Education Director Jim Triesler as he explores the conditions for our military at the conclusion of WWII. Register early for this virtual event: vawarmemorial.org/events
