St. James’s Children’s Center Marks 40 Years with Free Family Celebration at Dorey Park

The celebration takes place Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Dorey Park, 2999 Darbytown Road, Henrico, VA 23231. The event brings together more than a dozen community organizations for a festive, hands-on day of literacy activities, educational exhibits, family resources, and entertainment — all free of charge. Early literacy takes center stage throughout the day, with free book giveaways, a fall-themed Book Walk, and live readings by local children’s authors. Families can explore “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” school bus tours and settle into “Snuggle Up with Reading” spaces designed for children and caregivers to read together. Food trucks will be on site with lunch, snacks, and sweet treats available for purchase.
