During the 19th and 20th centuries, the women who inhabited this historic home navigated the social, cultural and economic limitations of their times. On this tour, we’ll discuss new research into the lives of the women who lived and worked in the home, and the stark contrasts between their experiences of motherhood, family, and freedom. This tour is free and open to the public. Registration not required.

The Valentine First Freedom Center is located in Shockoe Bottom on the same corner where Virginia’s General Assembly passed the Statue of Religious Freedom in 1786 and explores the past, present and future of religious freedom in America.
