Saxon Shoes for the Needy

Individuals, families, and groups from the community are encouraged to clean out their closets and donate their used, but still usable shoes to the collection. The collected shoes will be presented to The Salvation Army Adult Rehab Center in Richmond and The Salvation Army in Fredericksburg.

Fighting for the Right to Fight

An exhibition that examines how hopes of equality inspired many African Americans to enlist, the discouraging reality of the segregated noncombat roles given to black recruits, and the continuing fight for "Double Victory" that laid the groundwork for the Civil Rights Movement. The oral histories, profile panels, and artifacts, tell wartime stories of individual service members who took part in this extraordinary challenge. The centerpiece of the exhibition is an original eight-minute video about the Tuskegee Airmen.

For Darrick Claiborne, a painting begins with a blank canvas or a computer screen. Typically, the paintings are created with acrylic paint on canvas. Darrick also creates digital paintings that are printed and converted to mixed media by applying acrylic paint, fabric, jewels, and oil pastel.
