ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation supports families in Virginia who are battling childhood
cancer. Founded in 1975, the organization has offered a helping hand to the community for
almost 50 years. With 6-7 children being diagnosed per week across the state, the need for the financial, educational and psychosocial support ASK provides is greater than ever.
To support their work, join participants on May 18th at The Diamond for the 19th Annual ASK
5K & Fun Walk–the biggest cancer-fighting 5K in Richmond–by registering today.
ASK 5K & Fun Walk
19 years ago, a handful of ASK families gathered on a Spring morning and walked to raise
money for their children who were battling cancer side by side at the Children’s Hospital of
Richmond. They found that in leaving the hospital walls behind them, they were able to put
illness on the backburner and focus on celebrating the time spent together. And while the
“where” has changed and the “who” has multiplied almost 20 years later, some things never
change. Savanna, ASK mom and first time participant in 2023, shares that their “first year at the ASK 5K & Fun Walk was incredible… The sense of community and love from everyone there was so strong.”
On May 18th, hundreds of people will descend upon The Diamond and even more will
participate virtually, sending their support from far and wide. Register to join them at
askwalk.org. The event begins at 8am with a pre-race tailgate including fun and games. The race itself will kick off at 9:30am with a post-race festival to follow. Don’t miss a chance to see the mission firsthand when our Kourageous Kids (children on active treatment and survivors) take the baseball pitch during their Victory Lap.
Don’t go alone! Build your team by inviting your friends, family, neighbors and
colleagues–anyone and everyone–to join you. From the moment you register until you cross the finish line, the race is on! Compete with other teams to win prizes and swag along the way. ASK set a goal of raising $200,000 this year and it’s up to you to help make that happen–to help make a difference in the lives of many ASK families. Register today and don’t let a day go by without sharing your commitment. More importantly, tell them about Kourageous Kids like Ada. Savanna remembers how “walking through Richmond and The Diamond with swarms of people who were there supporting and honoring kids just like my daughter, Ada, was an overwhelming experience.” Know that every step you take towards the finish line is in support of families like theirs.
