Materials
- Wooden mallet or hammer
- Thick paper (example: watercolor or mixed media paper)
- Found nature objects (example: leaves and flowers)
- Container
Instruction
- Grab a container and head outside! Gather any nature items you see, like colorful leaves or vibrant flower petals.
- Empty your collection and sort through the materials. You can organize the nature items based on type of material (a pile for leaves, a pile for petals, etc.) or sort by color (a pile for yellow, a pile for red, etc.).
- Choose which nature item you would like to start with first and place it as flat as possible onto the thick paper.
- Using your muscles, pound the nature item onto the paper using the mallet to release the item’s pigment. Remove any pieces of the nature item to see the colorful print it left behind.
- Repeat this process to create beautiful nature prints and patterns.
Fun Fact

This art-making style is called process art. It focuses on the journey of creating rather than the outcome.
