Resolve to pack 2025 with more STEM. From exhibitions to events, the Science Museum of Virginia is offering numerous ways for guests to engage with science, technology, engineering and math this year.

Exhibitions

  • “Towers of Tomorrow with LEGOⓇ Bricks” opens Saturday, Feb. 1. Celebrating architecture and design, this hands-on exhibition showcases 20 of the world’s most iconic skyscrapers from North America, Asia and Australia. The exhibition features more than half a million LEGO bricks, with another 200,000 available for guests to build their own towers and other creations.
  • The Science Museum’s new permanent astronomy exhibition “Orbit” launches late spring. Featuring custom, interactive exhibits exploring topics such as physics, biology and engineering, the out-of-this-world experience will offer guests a stellar cosmic journey.
  • Prehistoric creatures meet cutting-edge technology when ”Ultimate Dinosaurs” debuts May 31. Twenty full specimens from the Southern Hemisphere plus augmented reality transform intricately detailed skeletons into moving, flesh-and-bones animals from the Mesozoic Era. The can’t miss experience promises to be DINO-mite!

Festivals

  • February 1 is going to be lit! In addition to “Towers of Tomorrow with LEGOⓇ Bricks” opening, GLOW returns, and in expanded form. The event will begin with the Science Museum’s 9:30 a.m. opening and illuminate the evening, running through 8 p.m. Guests will enjoy hands-on activities, live demos and special Laser Shows.
  • The Science Museum will celebrate Earth Day with a festival-style event on Saturday, April 19. Dozens of community partners will help guests learn about composting, wetlands, bike infrastructure, solar power, recycling, watershed restoration efforts, native plants and pollinators, energy savings and much more.
  • Virginia crafters unite for Well Made, the Science Museum’s inaugural artistic craft maker event on September 26–27. The festival brings together a wide variety of creators to showcase their products. Guests can watch artisans sculpt, sew, polish, paint and much more. Well Made will inspire the creativity and science behind all things. Exhibitor applications are being accepted now!
  • An on-time arrival for Thanksgiving weekend brings the Model Railroad Show back to Richmond on November 28–30. The annual spectacle of elaborate train displays and engineering feats will celebrate its 48th year in a celebration of the building’s history as a train station for half of the 20th century.

Winter/Spring Events

  • Science After Dark: Superhero Science, a family focused event packed with superhero-themed programming, takes place Friday, Jan. 17, from 5–8 p.m.
  • The sensory-friendly event Minds of All Kinds is January 24 from 4–8 p.m.
  • Rescheduled because of winter weather, the Teacher Resource Fair is now Saturday, Feb. 8. Educators and up to three guests can experience the Science Museum for free plus learn about resources from organizations across the state.
  • No kids allowed! Science on Tap: Mystery at the Museum, an event for 21+ sleuths, detectives and crime-solvers, takes place Friday, Feb. 21, from 6–10 p.m.
  • Guests can enjoy an unforgettable night full of exploration and adventure when they spend the night in the Science Museum during the Curiosity Camp-In March 21–22.

The Science Museum’s full programming calendar, with details and ticket information for each offering, can be found at smv.org. Additional spring and summer events will be announced in the coming months.
