Summer Camp Adventures at the Science Museum of Virginia
Join us for a week of hands-on STEM activities that will spark curiosity and inspire campers to generate ideas in science, technology, engineering and mathematics!
Our week-long camp experiences are for rising 4-6 graders and include opportunities to explore the Museum, visit our Dome Theater and participate in a variety of Live Science Programs. Camps will be held from 9 am- 3pm, Monday through Friday. Camp fees cover a daily snack, t-shirt, water bottle and all camp activities. Campers will need to bring their own lunch to help energize them for our scientific adventures.
Summer camp is $250 for members and $300 for non-members. Ask about discounts for state employees. After- Camp child care is available for campers to help make these extraordinary experiences possible for all schedules. Families must register prior to using this service. Post- Camp care available until 5:30 for $50 per week.

“July 20-24, 2020 Mission to Mars:
Join us and experience some blast-your-socks-off science! What does it take to travel to and live on another planet? Learn about plans to travel back to the moon or to prepare for a future trip to Mars. We’ll follow news about the new Mars Rover launch (July or August 2020) as we build our own rovers and rockets, learn about eating and cooking in space, build clothing and shelters to protect astronauts, and more!”
“July 27-31, 2020 Ocean Explorers:
Explorers prepare! This week we dive into the ocean depths and explore the science of the sea. Discover some of the world’s most fascinating and feared creatures as we investigate the life of sharks and other elusive sea creatures! What is the largest creature in the sea? How deep have humans ever dived? How does a submarine work? Find out as you become an ocean explorer!”
“August 3-7, 2020 Makers on a Mission:
The mission: Save the world. Or at least a small part of it. Join the Museum’s maker team to design solutions to some of our environmental challenges. Makers will design, prototype and build various Earth-helping devices. Learn methods of growing your own food, saving water and upcycling trash to treasure. Discover skills using hand tools, building methods and construction. Are you ready for the challenge?”
“August 10-14, 2020 Bugging Out:
Join the Museum in an investigation of the small, the hidden and the unnoticed: the life of bugs. Search for specimens in their natural habitat, get up close and personal with bug behavior and maybe even try one for a snack! Enjoy live interactions with species from our bug collection, as well as from expert guests. Assist in raising butterflies and you might even build a robot bug to take home with you! There is something for everyone when you bug out!”
