Summer Camp Adventures at the Science Museum of Virginia

Join us for a week of hands-on STEM activities that will spark curiosity and inspire campers to generate ideas in science, technology, engineering and mathematics!
Our week-long camp experiences are for rising 1-3 and 4-6 graders and include opportunities to explore the Museum, visit our Dome Theater and participate in a variety of Live Science Programs.
Camps will be held from 9 am- 3pm, Monday through Friday. Camp fees cover a daily snack, t-shirt, water bottle and all camp activities. Campers will need to bring their own lunch to help energize them for our scientific adventures.

Summer camp is $250 for members and $300 for non-members. Ask about discounts for state employees.
After- Camp child care is available for campers to help make these extraordinary experiences possible for all schedules. Families must register prior to using this service. Post- Camp care available until 5:30 for $50 per week.

“July 15-19, 2019 Lunar Lab:

One small step for man, one giant leap for summer campers! Join us in celebrating the anniversary of the moon landing with some blast your socks off science! We will take a look through the galaxy with real-life astronomers, explore objects that returned from space, try astronaut food, and even launch rockets!

“July 22-26, 2019 World of Wizardry:

Your letter has arrived and you have been accepted to the Science Museum of Virginia’s School of Wizardry! Grab your cloak and wand and don’t be late for your first potions and charms classes, or there won’t be time to try that famous Chocolate Frog! End the week with some awe-inspiring magic tricks to impress all your friends.”

“July 29- August 2, 2019 Maker Madness:

Tap into your inner creator at the Science Museum of Virginia’s new maker space, The Forge. Get hands on with various tools from hammers to laser cutters. Learn how to upcycle trash into treasure. Design your own games, prototype a new vehicle, or build a working instrument! Let your imagination take hold as you create to your hearts content.”

“August 5-9, 2019 Superhero Science:

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No! It’s a SuperHERO Scientist! If you could have any super power what would it be? Flight? Strength? Heat vision? Invisibility? Mind control? How about spending a week testing all of our Hero’s favorite powers! Scientists Assemble!”

“August 12-16, 2019 Storm Chasers:

When does a wave become a tsunami? When does a dark cloud become a tornado? How can we predict when earthquakes will hit or volcanoes erupt? Become a storm chaser as we revisit some of history’s most daunting natural disasters. Learn how natural disasters occur, how we can be resilient when they do occur, and even create some mini-storms right here in camp!”
