150 artists from across the country will fill Main Street Station this Friday through Sunday, offering original museum quality work to kick off shopping for the holiday season.
In addition to offering the most unique of shopping experiences, Craft + Design weekend is packed with events, delicious food and drinks, and the opportunity for visitors to learn more about making art.
The weekend kicks off with the McKinnon and Harris Patrons’ Preview Party, Friday evening from 6PM until 9PM, bringing together arts patrons, art lovers, artists, exhibitors, special guests, and the public for a first-hand look at artworks and an early shopping experience. Tickets are $60 for VisArts members and $65 for the general public and includes beer, wine, hors d’oeuvres, and the chance to shop before the official show opening on Saturday morning.
The Carole and Marcus Weinstein Rise + Shine Brunch on Saturday morning from 9:30AM until 11AM pairs early shopping with a light breakfast, bloody marys, and mimosas. Tickets are $35 for VisArts members and $40 for the general public.
Regular shopping hours are 11AM to 5PM on Saturday, November 18 and Sunday, November 19. General admission tickets are $10.
Hands-On Family Fun in the Free Education Wing
The FREE Education Wing, presented by Richmond Family Magazine, is an art-making space for adults and children to explore the various mediums Craft + Design artists use to create their artwork. Activities are led by VisArts teachers, and visitors can stay as long as they’d like at each of the six making stations.
If you need inspiration or want to know how some of the artwork is made, several of VisArts’ teaching artists will give live craft-making demonstrations on the Craft + Design Demonstration Stage. Ticket holders can see demonstrations that cover several areas of art, from drawing and painting to sculpture, during regular shopping hours on Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Visual Arts Center of Richmond produces Craft + Design to showcase the very best contemporary craft artists and makers from the Richmond area and beyond. All ticket sales from Craft + Design benefit educational and community programs like MakeSpace and the Veterans Program at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond.
