RFM team members share books they have enjoyed. Maybe you will, too!

Michelle Icard’s Fourteen Talks by Age Fourteen was going to be required reading in our family. We’ve embarked on the path of requisite upper elementary and middle school milestones, and I’ve found that this read offers plenty of perspective and easy-toimplement strategies to make the conversations along the way more productive and meaningful for everyone involved.

Icard tackles common hallmarks of the preteen and tween experiences and provides families with a playbook for talking about them. From topics like healthy friendships and establishing independence to technology use and sexuality, each of the recommended 14 talks are broken down in a way that both parents and kids will appreciate. The book quickly reframed how I approach discussing all the things with my daughters, and I’m grateful to have added strategies for even the cringiest of conversations to my toolbox.

If you’re looking for a helping hand as you and your kids navigate some of the most dynamic, exciting, and trying years of adolescence, Fourteen Talks by Age Fourteen just might be your new bestie.
