A feel-good and relatable romantic buddy story.
Having enjoyed Emily Henry’s 2020 New York Times best-selling novel Beach Read, I decided to stay on the Henry train and read her 2021 bestseller, People We Meet on Vacation. The choice was timely for me since Henry is a headliner at the Junior League of Richmond’s annual Book & Author Event on May 12.
People We Meet on Vacation follows the story of two unlikely friends since college, Poppy and Alex, as they navigate their twenties together – but mostly apart – while she pursues a career as a travel writer and he stays in their hometown to teach. We tag along on their annual summer adventures and watch their relationship twist and turn, as the mystery of what happened on vacation two years ago hangs in the air for much of the book.
Henry’s character development is on point in this title. By the end, the reader can really sense what these two are all about – their hopes and dreams, doubts and fears. A perfect summer beach read, this slow-burn relationship tale does it better than most and will leave you with warm and fuzzy feelings just in time for Henry’s newest novel, Book Lovers.
These titles will likely solidify Henry as the go-to rom-com writer of our time. I highly recommend People We Meet on Vacation and its author as perfect resources for easy-going reading.
