It’s one of the most popular, well-known and often-sung tales in Disney’s history, and it’s finally making its debut in Richmond as part of the 2023-2024 Broadway In Richmond season.
Have you guessed yet? You’d be correct if you said Disney’s Frozen with all of its iconic songs – admit it, you’ve sung Let It Go at least once — starts off a season of blockbuster entertainment.
Disney’s Frozen, whose creative team cumulatively has won sixteen Tony awards, opens in October, but it’s just one of the Richmond premieres in this season’s lineup. You’ll find three family titles, a dramatic play, and a returning holiday favorite. All performances will be at the Altria Theater.

The smash hit Six, another premiere, will play in November. In the musical, the six wives of Henry VIII take the microphone to remix 500 years of historical heartbreak into a celebration of 21st century woman power. The show won twenty-three awards in the 2021/22 Broadway season, including the Tony Award for Best Original Score and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical.
The musical Annie takes the stage in January 2024 and Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird will make its area premiere in February. The other two Richmond premieres are Tina — The Tina Turner Musical, slated for April 2024, and Beetlejuice in June 2024. Dr. Suess’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical is returning to Richmond this December – just right for the holidays.
“The 2023-2024 Broadway In Richmond season is jam-packed with exciting, beautiful, melodic, and meaningful presentations. We can’t wait to kick off the season in October with Disney’s Frozen, and we are thrilled that five of our presentations are premieres for this area,” says Cindy Creasy, Broadway in Richmond spokesperson. “When Broadway In Richmond presenter, Nederlander National Markets, programs a season, they hit all the marks, making sure we have some classics, family shows, and the newest national touring shows available.”
Creasy says subscriptions are growing each year and Richmond audiences seem to appreciate the talent, sets, costuming, and the music. “This is why these performers love playing Richmond and Altria Theater,” says Creasy.
