Richmond, Va. – Agecroft Hall and Gardens – the 16th-Century, English Tudor manor home shipped across the ocean to Richmond, Va. in the 1920s – hosts two free events this May 11th in honor of Mother’s Day.

On Mother’s Day, Agecroft offers free garden admission from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. This includes free access to Agecroft’s gardens, grounds and trails. Registration is recommended.

“On a beautiful day, there’s simply nothing better than being out in nature, particularly when you’ve got views of the James River and just the right amount of shade,” says Anne Kenny-Urban, executive director of Agecroft Hall and Gardens. “Spring is a lovely time of year for our gardens. It’s always wonderful to see families relaxing, just enjoying each other’s company here on Mother’s Day.”

Picnics are welcome, and picnic blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged. Frozen custard, baked goods, and cold-pressed juices will be available for purchase. With the exception of service animals, pets are not permitted in Agecroft Hall or on the grounds.

Information about ticketed tours of Agecroft’s historic house, offered at regular rates on Mother’s Day, is available online.

Then that evening, from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m., Agecroft hosts a free “Songs Without Words”-themed concert by the Richmond Concert Band. The program is family-friendly and includes an eclectic mix of musical styles and popular songs.

“Join us for a concert you can definitely hum along to, because this program features ‘Songs Without Words!’ From radio, TV and movie favorites to light classical tunes, marches and even game show themes, you will recognize these tunes that are well-known – even without lyrics,” says

Mark Poland, director of the Richmond Concert Band. “We will also be featuring some of our talented musicians and sections on instruments ranging from saxophone to anvil!”

The concert will take place outdoors on the front lawn of Agecroft Hall. Concertgoers should plan to bring their own chairs or blankets for seating. Madison County-based DuCard Vineyards will offer wine for sale. No registration is needed.

In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be postponed to May 18 at 6 p.m.

Information on these upcoming events and more is available at AgecroftHall.org/upcoming-events
