Chesterfield Historical Society Seeking Memorabilia of early African-American Schools For a Museum Exhibit

The African-American History Committee of the Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia (CHSV) is seeking materials with which to create a museum exhibit featuring early African American schools in Chesterfield County.

The CHSV search includes items such as photos, programs, rosters, school books and teacher materials, yearbooks, and school props. Photos with persons who are identified are of particular interest and such items will be accepted on a loan basis for scanning and returned to the original owners.

To lend items to CHSV, please call Reverend Herbert Townes at (804) 379-3929 to coordinate a mutually convenient date, time and place to review any items you may have. Items must be submitted prior to September 30, 2013.

The Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia is a private, non-profit, 501(c)3 organization which serves as the center for Chesterfield County history. Established in 1981, its mission is to research and celebrate Chesterfield’s history. For more information or to volunteer, please call (804)796-7121 or click on www.chesterfieldhistory.com
