Did you know that children in transitional living situations, including foster care and those experiencing homelessness, often are forced to move using only a black plastic trash bag?

Closet Factory Richmond believes everyone deserves a place to put their stuff. The company has donated hundreds of new, high-quality duffel bags/backpacks to Caring Closet (UMFS affiliate) to help make positive change for children in our community.

Closet Factory put these bags in the hands of the experts at Caring Closet, who will ensure the donations get in the hands of children in need in an appropriate and respectful way that best benefits the children.

Help Children in Transitional Living Situations

Caring Closet facilitates and distributes donated high-quality clothing and comfort bags to people in the Richmond area who are in a short-term or extended at-risk situation. More information about the non-profit organization can be found at caring-closet.org.

For more information about Caring Closet, visit CaringCloset.org.

The list of items needed to fill the bags is also on the Caring Closet website.

How to Help Kids in Richmond

Caring Closet will stuff the bags full of items children need most. The organization’s bag-stuffing event is slated for December 5 with many local businesses pitching in to help, including Closet Factory Richmond.

This is the Closet Factory Richmond’s first donation from the Closet Factory Cares Bags for Kids program. Across the country, bags are being donated in the areas in which the donations were raised, allowing people to help children in their own communities. For every new project started by a Closet Factory client, a bag donation was generated, and improving the lives of more than 40,000 children annually.

Email donations@caring-closet.org and mention Closet Factory for instructions on how to drop off donations. Everyone can help children in the community (kindergarten through twelfth grade) by donating items from the Caring Closet Wishlist, which includes:

  • New children’s athletic, rubber-soled, closed-toe shoes (pre-k through size 5)
  • New pajamas (children’s size 5 through adult)
  • New ADULT underwear for men and women in all sizes
  • New reusable water bottles (no blender bottles)
  • New 50×60 fleece blankets
  • New regular and small stuffed animals
  • New adult Coloring Books
  • New adult full-sized toothpaste
  • New adult toothbrushes (one or two packs)
  • New hair brushes
  • New Uno card games
  • New stress balls or fidget (needs to be soft)
  • New single-subject composition notebooks (no metal)

Please email donations@caring-closet.org to receive drop-off instructions and please mention Closet Factory in your email.
