Critical Need for Blood Donations! Please Give If You Are Able

The American Red Cross blood supply is currently at its lowest level in more than ten years.

Please schedule your next donation appointment today.

Help ensure blood is available to support patients’ ongoing needs, including scheduled surgeries and emergency situations like car crashes, household accidents, and more.

The Red Cross provides about 40 percent of the nation’s blood supply, and patients rely on volunteer donors to help them heal. Please make this act of service a priority this year.

Families in the region need you now. Will you help end the national blood crisis?

Schedule HERE!

You can still donate after receiving a COVID-19 vaccination or booster. Knowing the name of the manufacturer is critical in determining your blood donation eligibility. Learn more here.

RFM’s editor Karen gives blood at a local drive to honor her dad, who received multiple blood transfusions while he was alive.

The Red Cross follows the highest standards of safety and infection control. For the safety of our donors and staff, the Red Cross will require all those at blood drives and blood donation centers to wear face masks regardless of their vaccination status. Valve face masks are not permitted. Face shields can be worn in addition to face masks but not as a substitute.

The time to give is now!

Sign up to donate blood at a local blood drive and you might win admission to the Science Museum of Virginia!

Send us a screenshot of your blood donation appointment* or tag Richmond Family Magazine on Facebook or @RFMtoday on Twitter or Instagram in a picture of yourself giving blood. You’ll be entered to win two general admission tickets to the Science Museum of Virginia.

We’ll randomly choose a winner from all entries on February 28 and contact you through email or your social media account.

*Must be from a local blood drive in the Richmond, Virginia, region.

P.S. The Red Cross has partnered with the NFL this January to urge individuals to give blood and help tackle this shortage. As a thank you for your immediate help, you’ll automatically be entered for a chance to win a getaway to Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles when you give blood this January.* As an extra thank you from the Red Cross, those who donate by Jan. 31 will also be automatically entered to win a home theater package and a $500 e-gift card.**
