Live performance has the power to inspire future generations—sparking curiosity that leads to new ideas and contributes to strong and thriving communities. For many Richmonders, access to those experiences can feel out of reach. That’s where Richmond Performing Arts Alliance (RPAA) steps in.
As the nonprofit that supports Altria Theater and Dominion Energy Center for the Performing Arts, RPAA is committed to making performances in its venues accessible through its RPAA Night series. The series offers free tickets to select performances to community members, along with pre-show events such as artist panels, interactive workshops, and live music showcases.
Because of our experience at RPAA Night, my daughter told me, “I am going to be on that stage, mommy.” With the resources available in Richmond, that dream will come to fruition! – RPAA Night participant
Since launching the program, RPAA has welcomed over 1,500 attendees—many coming to the theater for the first time. Applications are currently open for the 2025/26 season, which includes shows from Broadway in Richmond, Richmond Shakespeare, and Cadence. Families and individuals who face financial barriers to participating in the arts are encouraged to apply and select up to three performances they’re interested in attending.
This program is more than just a night out; it’s a step towards increasing access to the arts in the Richmond community. According to Americans for the Arts, people engaged in the arts are more likely to participate in civic life, perform better in educational settings, and are healthier overall.
The fall application form closes October 20 at 5:00 p.m. Applications will reopen again in the new year.
