Powhatan State Park – 804-598-7148, 4616 Powhatan State Park Road, Powhatan, VA

Enjoy ranger-led programs and self-guided activities at Powhatan State Park to get outdoors! The park has approximately 7 miles of hiking and biking trails, several geocaches, wildlife watching opportunities, park packs and more. This is a great opportunity to discover the park with family and friends.

2-3 p.m. Significance of the James: Meet at the parking area at the end of River Launch Road.  Program is Free but parking fees apply.
4-8:30 p.m. Kayaking the James (West View to Powhatan): Join park staff as we kayak the James River from West View to Powhatan State Park.  Program fee is $15.00/person.  The fee includes the use of kayaks, all associated gear, and a shuttle to West View.  Space is limited.  Call 804-598-6193 to register. Pocahontas State Park, 804-796-4255, 10300 State Park Road, Chesterfield, VA.

11 a.m. and 4 p.m. – Survival Skills Class.  Everybody loves building a fort now and again.  If you join us at the Nature Center for this program you can get a little fort building in while you learn some skills that could save your life one day.  To top it off, you’ll head home with a nifty survival bracelet. Program is free but a $7 parking fee applies.

1 p.m. – Guided Hike.  We’ll meet by the CCC museum for a hike around Beaver Lake Trail, an approximately 2.5-mile loop.  We’ll note some sites of natural and historical interest, like the beaver lodge and the old mill site, and work on some tree identification along the way.  Bring comfortable shoes, plenty of water, and sunscreen, and allow for up to 2 hours. Program is free but a $7 parking fee applies.
