The zoo is excited to launch the Poppy Cam, a new live stream of our pygmy hippo duo, Iris and Poppy. The Poppy Cam lets animal lovers worldwide watch Poppy’s daily adventures in real time, offering a unique and intimate view of this endangered species. The feed also displays educational facts about pygmy hippos, including their behavior, diet, and conservation needs.
The Poppy Cam shows an overhead view of the indoor pool. The live stream is available daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST. A highlight reel of other Poppy videos will be displayed on the feed outside these hours. Iris and Poppy can choose where to spend their time, and they may not always be visible on camera.
Pygmy hippos are nocturnal and spend most of their days resting in the water. At night, they leave the water to feed on land. Poppy Cam viewers can expect to see the pygmy hippos sleeping, splashing, and even pooping in the pool! If the water appears dirty, the hippos recently pooped, and the filters are working hard to clean it. Whether she’s swimming or nursing underwater, this live camera lets fans everywhere peek into a part of Poppy’s world.
