The Richmond Christmas Mother Fund announced that it has awarded a $25,000 grant to FeedMore, Central Virginia’s core hunger-relief organization, to provide meals to 2,000 families during the holiday season. The meals will be distributed to neighbors throughout greater Richmond next month through FeedMore’s Mobile Pantry, which takes nutritious meals to neighborhoods with limited access to healthy and affordable food.
“We have so much to be thankful for this time of year and this wonderful grant from the Richmond Christmas Mother will certainly help us spread the holiday spirit to the families we help throughout Richmond,” said Doug Pick, Chief Executive Officer at FeedMore. “For many of us, food serves as the centerpiece of our fondest memories and we are incredibly grateful to have the continued support of the Richmond Christmas Mother and the Richmond Times-Dispatch. In addition to nourishing our neighbors with this special holiday meal, we are also showing them that we care, that Richmond cares, that they are remembered and we are here for them in their times of need.”
FeedMore’s Mobile Pantry program distributes approximately 92,000 pounds of food monthly to underserved communities with limited access to grocery stores. With nearly 20 distribution sites across Central Virginia, the Mobile Pantry is committed to providing families with a variety of perishable and nonperishable food items for well-balanced meals.
“We have been impressed with FeedMore’s efforts to attack hunger in new ways during the Christmas season by distributing healthy food to families in need through its Mobile Pantry,” said Thomas A. Silvestri, president and publisher of the Richmond Times-Dispatch and chair of the Richmond Christmas Mother Committee. “On behalf of our generous donors, we are able to fulfill one important aspect of our mission of making sure families in need don’t go hungry on Christmas.”
In addition to this generous donation to FeedMore, 48 local nonprofit groups will receive a total of $75,000 this holiday season as part of a yearly grant program administered by the Richmond Christmas Mother Committee and The Community Foundation of Richmond.
