Patios around the Greater Richmond area will be going to the dogs the weekend of September 6 and 7 at 24 participating restaurants and craft beverage makers that have pledged 10% of the weekend’s proceeds in support of the Richmond SPCA. The inaugural Pups, Plates & Pours weekend and Kickoff Pawty on Friday, September 5th are presented by the Pendleton Law Team.

The list of participating locations spans from Ashland to South of the James and from Church Hill to the West End. Each of the restaurants has a patio where well-behaved pets are welcome, and at some brewery and cidery locations, pups may also enter the tasting room. Whether they are accompanied by a pet or not, all patrons will be supporting the work of the Richmond SPCA by visiting a participating business during the event.

“This event brings together so many of our favorite things — a weekend of dining and drinks with the option to have a dog by your side, all to provide for the pets and guardians who are relying on the Richmond SPCA,” said Attorney Christina Pendleton, owner of the Pendleton Law Team. “With so many great local spots participating in this pup crawl, there’s sure to be both an old favorite and something new to try on the list, and we hope to see lots of pet lovers doing both.”

The local nonprofit aims to raise $25,000 to support lifesaving programs that provide shelter for homeless animals and keep pets in loving homes. The fundraising weekend starts on Friday evening with a Kickoff Pawty at Final Gravity Brewing in Lakeside from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. A suggested $5 donation is requested for admission to the festivities featuring:

  • Food trucks from River City Wood Fire and Westray’s Finest Ice Cream
  • Live music from Turner’s Body Shop Band
  • Assorted local vendors and activities
  • Photos in the dog kissing booth with Myrtle, the Richmond SPCA’s 2025 mascot
  • Pre-sales of the “Saving Lives Together” license plate to be introduced in 2026
