Together, We Can Dunk Hunger!
As of late August, FeedMore reports that with the cash-to-pounds conversion of online donations, Dunk Hunger 2016 has raised 61,378 pounds of food for the Central Virginia Food Bank. Here’s where things stand regarding the competition for the $1,000 cash prize for the top-producing RVA pool club/swim team:
7. The Dominion Club
6. Westwood Club
5. Atlee Rec
4. Hungary Creek
3. Canterbury Rec
2. Wyndham
1. Avalon
For the first time, Dunk Hunger will run through Labor Day, so keep reminding your pool members to bring in donations and/or funds all month long.
This is a very close race, so if you wanted to attempt to influence the result with an online donation, you could do just that! (Hint for out-of-town grandma and/or pap-pap!) To make a donation online to support a local pool’s efforts, go here. You can designate a swim team or pool club when you donate. FeedMore turns your cash donations into meals for families across Central Virginia! All donations must be turned in by 3 p.m., Friday, September 2.

While many families think of summer as the season of play and travel, others in Central Virginia are wondering where their next meal is coming from. That’s why Dunk Hunger, the food drive to benefit FeedMore’s Central Virginia Food Bank, is so important. Since RFM launched Dunk Hunger in 2012, our efforts have resulted in 150,000 meals for the families FeedMore’s Central Virginia Food Bank serves! That’s an incredible contribution.
Do you want to be part of this community effort? Next spring, be sure to sign up your swim team or pool club to participate in Dunk Hunger! Here’s how Dunk Hunger works:
As many of our participating pools from all over Richmond know, it’s a rewarding way to do good as a family and as a community. First, make sure your pool is signed up, so you you can be a part of this outreach effort when pools open this month. Then, support Dunk Hunger by adding to the donation bins or boxes when you visit your pool this summer, or by making a donation online.
Remember, this is a great way to help your kids get service hours that are required by some area schools. Many families make signs and sponsor contests to boost donations at their local pools. And someone will have to deliver all those food donations to the convenient drop-site at FeedMore. (A great assignment and more service hours for your new teen driver!)
And here’s the really cool part, the club or team that collects the most donations by August 31 will receive a $1,000 cash prize! This year, it could be your swim team or pool club.
With RFM’s partners, NOVA of Virginia Aquatics and the Virginia Swim Shop, we are sending out a big thank you to our Dunk Hunger sponsors to-date: Gold Medal: FocusMD, Regency Square, St. Christopher School. Virginia Family Dentistry; Silver Medal: Ortho Virginia.; Bronze Medal: Mathnasium
We’d love to have more sponsors, so email info@RFMonline.com and connect with RFM’s publisher and the woman behind Dunk Hunger, Margaret Thompson. She’ll fill you in on how your Richmond-area business can join the fight to end hunger in Central Virginia this summer.
