Sportable, the Richmond-based Paralympic sport club that provides sporting opportunities to children, adults, and veterans with physical and visual disabilities, will host the 5th Annual Sportable Tailgate presented by Chicken Fiesta at the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Facility on Saturday, September 17. The event will take place from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and will feature food from Chicken Fiesta as well as local food trucks, craft beer, and live musical entertainment by Nashville recording artist, John Riggins.
“We are so excited to be celebrating another year of incredible accomplishments by our athletes and sporting teams,” commented Hunter Leemon, executive director at Sportable. “There is much to celebrate with the Spokes, our youth wheelchair basketball team, capturing a national title, and one of our athletes, Alexa Halko, representing our country in Rio this September as part of the Paralympic Games. Additionally, our Tailgate represents a great opportunity to bring all of our partners – athletes, volunteers, families, supporters, funders, and advocates – together. It should be a wonderful event.”
This year’s Tailgate is the second year in a row the event is being held at the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center, and the first for Chicken Fiesta as the event’s presenting sponsor. Chicken Fiesta owner, Harold Vega, commented, “Chicken Fiesta is proud to be behind this great cause. Sportable provides opportunities to people who need them and are committed to changing the lives of their athletes. We applaud their work and are happy to support their cause.”
Nashville recording artist John Riggins will be providing the musical entertainment for the event as he stops through Richmond promoting his 2015 album “Outlaw Rising.” “John is a tremendous talent and we feel incredibly fortunate he has agreed to play at our Tailgate,” commented Leemon. “Playing a combination of original material and popular country tunes, Riggins will be a perfect fit for our Tailgate theme and will help to make our event the best yet.”
The Sportable Tailgate is the largest fundraiser of the year for the organization and is highlighted by a celebration of the accomplishments of Sportable athletes throughout the year. The event will have local food offerings, live musical entertainment, and beer from local and regional breweries. Admission to the 5th Annual Sportable Tailgate is $40 and includes all food and beverages for the evening. Purchase tickets at www.sportable.org
