Middle and high school aged students learn how to safely swing a sword, take a punch and fall with skill in this workshop focused on physical movement and combat. Certified fight director Kevin Inouye uses rapiers, daggers, broadswords, household items and the human body itself to tell a complete story through action.

Shakespeare for Kids
Instructors: Mary Best Bova and Adam Mincks.
Students will embark on discovering Shakespeare through a child’s eyes. They will learn scansion, meter, and play language games, all in service to the start of a lifelong love of Shakespeare. Physical movement, vocal work, and purposeful play will all be a part of this super-fun class! Grades 6-8
Weds, 4pm to 6pm: October 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, Nov 6
Cost: $200

Introduction to Shakespeare
Instructors: Lucretia Anderson and Elisabeth Ashby.
This workshop is designed for actors with some practical theatre experience but limited exposure to the works of William Shakespeare. However, total beginners are also welcome! Sessions will offer a glimpse into the life of Shakespeare: his childhood, his journey to fame and his success as the Western world’s most famous playwright. Participants will be exposed to the basics of Shakespeare’s language, as well as a host of the Bard’s fabulous tools: rhetoric, wordplay, puns, metaphors and verse. In addition, students will learn historical context, embedded staging cues, scene studying techniques and character study.
Adults and High School Students
Weds, 6pm – 8pm: October 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, Nov 6
Cost: $200

Shakespeare Audition Technique
Instructor: Thomas Cunningham.
This workshop is designed for actors with some practical theatre experience but limited exposure to the works of William Shakespeare. This course offers actors an opportunity to prepare new audition material and/or strengthen existing pieces in preparation for auditions. Actors should bring a memorized monologue to the first class; the instructor may also recommend further monologues or scenes for each student at the first session. Every class will include warm-ups and exercises, along with monologue and scene coaching.
Ages 16 & up Sat & Sun: September 28 & 29 Noon to 4pm Cost: $100

Dialect Workshop
Instructor: Thomas Cunningham.
This workshop is designed as both an introduction and review of stage dialects. We will cover the fundamental sounds and characteristics of the British RP, Cockney, and NYC/Brooklyn dialects, with an ear to providing a strong foundation for newcomers, and honing to perfection the skills of experienced dialect users. The tools provided by this workshop are transferable to the acquisition of all dialects/accents, making it a great investment for all levels!
Ages 16 & up
Sat & Sun: Oct 19, 20 and 26, 27 Noon to 2pm
Cost: $150
