Celebrate America this 4th of July by welcoming new citizens at the annual citizenship ceremony held at the Virginia Museum of History & Culture (VMHC).

Approximately seventy-five candidates will be sworn in as newly naturalized citizens during the inspirational ceremony held in partnership with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia and the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). The ceremony will be officiated by the Honorable Roger L. Gregory, Chief Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and begins at 10:30 a.m.

The event, supported by the Bob & Melinda Sledd Independence Day Fund, is free to attend and open to the public. Please visit VirginiaHistory.org/July4 for an up-to-date list of items that are prohibited inside the ceremony venue. Admission to the museum galleries will be available from 10am tp 5pm on July 4th and tickets can be purchased through VirginiaHistory.org

Following the ceremony, guests are invited to participate in a special July 4th celebration that will take place outside on the Dominion Energy Plaza. Guests can enjoy live music, face painting, a bounce house, and birthday cake, generously provided by Ukrop’s (while supplies last), to commemorate the 247th anniversary of American Independence. Inside the museum, visit the VMHC Library to see a selection of Early American artifacts or test your knowledge with civics-related activities.

VMHC is owned and operated by the Virginia Historical Society — a private, non-profit organization established in 1831. The historical society is the oldest cultural organization in Virginia, and one of the oldest and most distinguished history organizations in the nation. For use in its state history museum and its renowned research library, the historical society cares for a collection of more than nine million items representing the ever-evolving story of Virginia.

VMHC is located at 428 N Arthur Ashe Boulevard in Richmond’s Museum District. For more information call 804.340.1800, visit VirginiaHistory.org, or connect on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
